New Samsung Galaxy Devices Lineup

Streaming live from Seoul, Korea was second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year, where it revealed a whole bunch of updates across its line of folding phones, Galaxy smartwatches, and tablets. For those who missed out on the live event, here is the summary of new device lineups.

Galaxy Z Flip 5

The star of the show was the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, the next iteration of the company's foldable smartphone lineup. Building on the success of its predecessors, the Z Flip 5 featured improved durability, a refined design, and enhanced multitasking capabilities.

The first new design change is the much larger 3.4-inch cover display that stretches from the device’s hinge to its dual cameras. The Flip 5’s cover screen can run full Android apps.

Samsung foldable users will rejoice with the capabilities of the Z Flip 5 folding completely flat. The device also comes with an upgraded Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The screen on the inside remains unchanged, featuring a 6.7-inch OLED panel.

Galaxy Z Fold 5

The second item of the lineup was Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5. Even though this device doesn’t come with as many major changes as the Z Flip 5, Samsung has still made some improvements to the devices.

Just like the Galaxy Z Flip 5, this one also comes with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip and an updated hinge that lets the device fold flat when closed. That also makes this device thinner than its predecessor with measurements of 13.4mm thick (down from 14.2mm) when it’s closed shut.

Other meaningful updates include a brightness boost to its 7.6-inch inner screen, which now sits at 1,750 nits and a new improved S Pen for the Galaxy Z Fold 5.

Galaxy Watch 6 series

Samsung Galaxy Watch 6 series.

This third item in the lineup was another fan favorite for many reasons: the Galaxy Watch 6 series. One, its sleep tracking capabilities got some sweet upgrades to track one's sleep patterns and moods. Two, it comes with the much-loved Watch 6 Classic with the rotating bezel and in two different sizes like in the last generation (43mm and 47mm sizes).

Three, the standard Galaxy Watch 6 comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes with an aluminum case. Both watches feature sapphire crystal displays and slightly larger displays. All watches ship with the latest Wear OS 4 and One UI 5 Skin, with bundled features like personalized heart rate zones, emergency SOS calling and customized watch faces.

Galaxy Tab S9 series

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series.

The last item in the lineup was the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, Samsung's latest lineup of premium tablets. These tablets namely Galaxy Tab S9, Tab S9 Plus, and Tab S9 Ultra came with larger OLED displays, powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip processor, and new IP68 ratings for dust and water resistance.

Price: $799 (KES 113,665.74), $999 (KES 142,117.74), $1299 (KES 170,569.74)

Overall, the Galaxy Unpacked event in July 2023 reaffirmed Samsung's position as a leading player in the tech industry, providing consumers with cutting-edge innovations and a wide range of products to meet their diverse needs.
