X using Tweets to Train Grok AI

What’s Happening?

X is using my tweets as data to train Grok AI?!! Yep, you have read this right.

Unless you modify your settings to prevent it, Grok, X's AI platform, will be able to automatically absorb that data and learn from it.

Don’t be too surprised by this though. The service started gathering biometric data and work and education background last year as part of a commitment to leverage public data to train its AI. But as of right now, at least on the desktop version of the platform, its user settings have chosen this as the opt-in default option.

The practice of training artificial intelligence (AI) systems on user data has gained controversy. Organizations like Apple, OpenAI, and Meta have come under fire for using data for AI training without consent or in ways that are not immediately apparent to consumers. Tech companies are constantly looking for new sources of information to feed AI systems, which require a growing amount of data to update and evolve their models.

How to stop it?

Use the desktop version of X, navigate to Settings, choose Privacy and Safety, and then select Grok from the Data Sharing and Personalization section to opt out of X's Grok training.

As of right now, the mobile edition of X does not provide such an opt-out option. You will have to opt-out individually for every account you administer on the platform.
