Today on the 9th of January 2024, Safaricom was down. The telecom giant was dealing with and addressing a service outage that was affecting MPESA services on both the Sim Tool Kit and Mobile App.
It started as early as 11:00 am in the morning. Some banks notified the people via SMS about the outage for those who were trying to do transactions. Safaricom users were receiving the following messages when attempting to use the MPESA services.
Fortunately, the services are back now and running. Safaricom officially released a statement to confirm that their services are up and running again.
Although Safaricom has not yet clarified what the issue was on the specific root cause behind the M-Pesa platform failure. It would be a great move if the telecom company became more transparent on the matter.
