Galaxy Ring

The Galaxy Ring is Samsung's latest innovation in health and wellness technology. This titanium wearable, first introduced at the Galaxy S24 Series launch, is packed with sensors like an accelerometer, and PPG sensors for blood flow measurement, and skin temperature detection. These features allow it to track various health metrics, including sleep quality, heart rate, respiratory rate, and menstrual cycles.

A standout feature of the Galaxy Ring is its Energy Score, which offers a comprehensive view of the user's health and personalized improvement suggestions. Unlike many health tech products, Samsung has opted not to use a subscription model for these services.

The Ring also includes automatic workout detection, heart rate alerts, and inactivity reminders to promote an active lifestyle. It features pinch gesture controls for interacting with Galaxy smartphones, such as taking photos or dismissing alarms.

Pairing the Galaxy Ring with a Galaxy Watch can extend its battery life by up to 30%. The Ring itself lasts up to seven days on a single charge and comes with a quick-charging case.

Priced at $400 (51,600 KES), the Galaxy Ring is a significant investment in personal health technology. However, it is currently not available in the Kenyan market.

Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra

Samsung has unveiled its latest high-end smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra, alongside the Galaxy Watch 7. The Galaxy Watch Ultra, powered by Wear OS 5, features a new cushion design for enhanced protection and aesthetic appeal.

Engineered for durability, it caters to extreme athletes and adventurers, directly competing with the Apple Watch Ultra. The Galaxy Watch Ultra operates from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters above, offers water resistance up to 100 meters, and has a robust titanium frame. Its battery life is impressive, with up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and 48 hours with exercise power-saving enabled, making it the longest-lasting Galaxy Watch to date.

Additional features include multi-course workout tracking for activities like triathlons, advanced Personalized Heart Rate Zone monitoring, and an emergency siren for enhanced safety. The display offers a peak brightness of 3,000 nits for excellent visibility in bright conditions, complemented by a night mode. Samsung has also incorporated sleep apnea detection capabilities and a new programmable Quick Button.

For those seeking a more standard smartwatch experience, the Galaxy Watch 7 is available. This model introduces a 3nm processor, delivering three times faster CPU performance and 30% better power efficiency. It includes a dual-frequency GPS system for improved location accuracy, enhanced health tracking features, and innovative double-pinch gesture controls.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available only in a 47mm size, priced at $649 (KES 73,300). The Galaxy Watch 7 offers more options, with 40mm and 44mm variants, starting at  $299 (KES 33,700) and $329 (KES 37,100) respectively.

The new Galaxy Buds 3 and Buds 3 Pro from Samsung sound impressive! The real-time audio translation feature with the Interpreter app is a great addition, especially for travellers and language learners. The advanced audio quality and noise cancellation features are sure to enhance the listening experience.

The Buds 3 Pro's new design and additional features like adaptive noise control and voice detection make them stand out. Plus, the dual amplifiers and planar tweeters should provide excellent sound quality.

With the Galaxy Buds 3 priced at $179 (KES 17,200) and the Buds 3 Pro at $249 (KES 24,000), they are a solid investment for anyone looking to upgrade their audio gear. Are you considering getting a pair?

The Z Fold 6 has an enlarged vapour chamber for better thermal management, while the Z Flip 6 introduces a vapour chamber for the first time. Both models incorporate AI features, including the Google Gemini app for generating images and drafting emails, and AI-powered camera enhancements.

A standout feature is the Interpreter app, which uses the dual-screen format for natural conversations, displaying translations on both screens with on-device processing for privacy and speed. The displays are slightly larger this year, with the Z Fold 6's main screen 2.7mm wider and the cover screen 1mm wider. Both devices have a peak brightness of 2,600 nits.
